Entry Requirements
This Course requires that you have Knowledge or exposure to The Bill of Lading and or Airway Bill, Incoterms Rules, Trade Agreements and The Commercial Invoice as these documents are the central point for Customs Bills of Entry , If you do not have this knowledge in Place you should consider taking our Essential Import Export Procedures course first
Introduction
In this Customs Clearing online course learn about the legislation and how to navigate the legislation. Learn to classify products correctly according to the Harmonised system using the general rules of interpretation. Understand how to calculate customs values and duties payable as well as VAT. Also learn how to complete the SAD 500 and initiate carrier release and the documents needed.
This Customs Clearing online short satisfies the SARS CSK requirements , CSK (Customs Sufficient Knowledge) which will be a requirement for all clearing agents.
Course Curriculum
Module 1- Customs Legislation:
Learn how to find your way around the current Customs and Excise Act and describe the impact of Customs legislation on importing and exporting activities. (Unit Standard: 252416 Credits: 6)
Module 2- Customs Tariff Classification:
Recall, comprehend and apply information contained in source documents to classify commodities in terms of the harmonised system. (Unit Standard: 252434 Credits: 8)
Module 3- Customs Values:
Use information contained in source documents to calculate an accurate value for customs purposes, as defined in the customs Act. (Unit Standard: 252414 Credits: 7)
Module 4- Duties on Tax Payable:
Calculate the duties payable in terms of the formulae and principles contained in the harmonised tariff book. (Unit Standard: 252421 Credits: 5)
Module 5- Customs declarations and Carrier Release Documentation:
Understand the concepts, principles, rules and legal documents relating to the control of imported goods. Then be able to identify which goods are subject to imports prohibition. Understand the principles, rules and legal prescripts as they relate to the framing and submission of customs declarations. Also be able to complete and submit all the necessary documentation for customs declarations. (Unit Standard: 252425 Credits: 8)
Duration
This course is self-paced. You may begin at any time and should take approximately 12 weeks to complete on a part time basis.
Course Approval
This course contributes a total of 34 credits towards the National Certificate: Freight Forwarding and Customs Compliance, SAQA Qualification ID: 59365 and is Transport Education Training Authority (TETA) accredited.
Course Delivery
This Customs Clearing online short course is delivered through the School of Shipping Online Learning website. A Subject Matter Expert will provide you with academic support through the learning website. A Course Coordinator will also be available on email/telephone to provide you with administrative support.
Assessment and Award of the Certificate
Each module has a formative and summative assessment which you will need to achieve a mark of 60% or higher for to receive the certification.
