So, what exactly is e-learning?

In basic terms, e-learning refers to a course, programme or degree that is delivered and completed entirely online. When it comes to formal education, most of us have a picture of students sitting in a classroom with an educator who is facilitating the learning process within a specific timeframe. Luckily, with e-learning we are no longer bound by physical classrooms or set timeframes.

E- learning is a system based on formalised teaching but with the help of electronic resources, like computers or cellphones. While teaching can occur in or out of the classrooms, the use of computers and the Internet forms the major component of e-learning.

At School of Shipping we offer Online Courses to help our students study anywhere and at any time, simply by conveniently using our online platform!

The benefits of e-learning:

Study in your own time

Online learning is able to meet the needs of almost anyone, those who wish to do a short course or a complete module or even a qualification. Most people find that time is restrictive and online learning can be done at any time, after hours and weekends too.

Easy access to all study material

Your material is available to you 24 hours per day. You may print the material or save the material on your device, so need to worry about forgetting your training manual somewhere.
Updates and web research are at your fingertips and easy to access.

Save on travel expenses

The delivery method of e-learning via a user name and a password means no lectures to attend. This in turn means that you have no extra travelling costs or time away from work or the office after hours.

Get a qualification quickly

Not everyone has time to study for years in order to enter the workforce or simply better a current skill set. e-learning is a quick way of upskilling. Earn credits while you work, without leaving the office! Getting qualified has never been this easy!

Save money

E-learning reduces your costs and is cheaper than the traditional way of learning as there are no extra expenses for the Training Provider in printed material and refreshments.

It’s eco-friendly

If you’re a “Greenie”, e-learning reduces your carbon footprint because there is no printing.

How does it work?

  • You can request more information from us via the “Need more information” form on our website. We will then send you the course outline and a registration form.
  • When you have completed the registration form, an invoice will be sent to you.
  • Once this has been paid via EFT or online via our PayGate system and appears on our bank statement, one of our friendly representatives will contact you and supply you with a user name and a password.
  • You will also be assigned an online mentor who will guide you should you have any questions.
  • You will be required to complete a formative assessment and summative assessment. Once you have completed this, you will be marked online and if you are found to be competent, you will be awarded a certificate.
