CTU Container Packing – Online Short Course

Learn to Pack Cargo Transport Units -container packing course

This course provides an introduction to the IMO/ILO/UNECE Code of Practice (CTU Code) and includes an overview of its development and objectives.

It is aimed at anyone who has an interest in learning more about the CTU Code and is interested in how they can use it in their day-to-day role.  The course contains the following sections:

Course scope and objectives

Course objectives and what is included in the course

Development of the CTU Code

Provides details on key contributors to the CTU Code, looks at the original packing guidelines and why the new CTU Code was developed

Legal situation and compliance

Looks at the regulatory framework, the status of the CTU Code and the difference between the previous Guidelines and the new Code, the legal situation with the Code and how it might be enforced.

Overview of the CTU Code structure

What the CTU Code includes and how it is structured. Focuses on key chapters to consider when starting to look at the Code.

How to access the CTU Code

How to access the online version of the CTU Code with worked examples.

Price and Duration 

The price of this course is R1500 Incl. VAT and you may begin at anytime and should take approximately 1 week to complete on a part-time basis.

Course Delivery

The CTU CODE OF GOOD PRACTICE course is delivered through the School of Shipping Learning website and allows you to study at your own pace. You may begin and register any time. A Subject Matter Expert and will provide you with academic support through the learning website and a Course Coordinator will also be available on email and telephone to provide you with administrative support.

Assessment and Award of the Certificate

You are not required to write any exams, assessments are completed online. You will need to achieve a mark of at least 60% for each assessment to receive the certification. Should you not gain competency on your first attempt one more resubmission will be allowed at no additional cost.

The only entry requirement for this course is a desire to learn and advance your career. In order to do this course, you will need:

  • An email account
  • Access to a computer and the internet
  • Be able to open and read PDF documents
  • Read and write in the English language
